Student answer (Band 6.5)

Schools are considered as a temple of education. In many countries, during the season of summer when the heat of the sun is extreme, primary and secondary schools provides holidays for two months for the sake of kids health. This essay will discuss about the value of long school holidays and also gives an arguments to support shorter school holidays.

On the one hand, it is irrefutable that the study courses has been extended in terms of length in comparison of past. Therefore, many times teachers are also focused to keep their courses on time. With this condition, if the length of school holidays increases then it would results as the loss of study for the students. Moreover, the longer holidays works as a stress buster for students but in many cases students are get easily distracted from studies.

On the other hand, to give refreshment and considering the health concerns during summer season 2 months are enough for the relaxation. And after a little break, if students start studying then it would be helpful to keep students connected to study. In addition, many schools gives a vacation homework or any other activities to students to keep them connected with study or keep them busy during the time of vacation.

In conclusion, the idea of longer holidays might be better for relaxation but simultaneously it is affecting the study. That is why, I believe that rather than extending the length of holidays, two months are enough. Because, the season of summer holidays are usually extreme for just 2 or 3 months.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you mention 'stress buster' and 'health concerns,' these points are not fully expanded with specific examples or deeper reasoning. The position is clear, but the arguments remain at a surface level. To reach a higher band, ensure that each main idea is supported by a concrete example or a more detailed explanation of the 'why' and 'how' behind your claims.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In addition' to link your thoughts. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more precise. For example, in the second paragraph, the transition 'With this condition' is slightly awkward. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'irrefutable,' 'distracted,' and 'relaxation.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'provides holidays' (should be 'provide') and 'gives an arguments' (should be 'give arguments'). Additionally, some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'the study courses has been extended.' To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring subject-verb agreement when using more sophisticated vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('schools provides,' 'holidays works,' 'students are get easily distracted') and article usage. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules, especially pluralization and verb forms, and try to incorporate more varied complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
