Student answer (Band 6.0)

In various countries, announces summer holidays for two months or more in primary and secondary schools.

Overall, many countries gives holidays for two months. It is like a refreshment break for students from primary and secondary schools. These holidays are given to students to refresh their minds from the boring routine of schools.

In various countries, government announces holidays for two months or more in primary and secondary schools. Many countries gives holidays only for two months from recent years. As the last years was really horrible for humans. Corona was spreading day by day and it really impacts the studies of students. So many countries decided to give holidays only for two months.

In the period of holidays many students visits new countries. Learn about their cultures and traditions. Try food from new countries. And also get to know the history of that country. And many students visit countryside and explores the beauty of nature. Many students have planned their holidays before summers. And students also spent their most of the time with their family and discuss their future plans and hobbies. Many students tries to learn new kind of skills to earn some money. So, they can earn by their self.

In my opinion, there should be holidays for two months as students needs some rest from their boring routine of school. So, they can have fun and can explore the beauty of the world and can learn different types of skills. So, their holidays will be not waste. And this is how they would learn how to earn money.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is quite limited. While you mention benefits like cultural exploration and skill acquisition, these points are presented as a list rather than being fully extended with specific examples or logical depth. The argument for shorter holidays is largely tied to the COVID-19 pandemic, which is a specific context rather than a general educational argument. To improve, you should provide more detailed reasoning for why shorter holidays might be beneficial, such as academic continuity or reducing the 'summer slide' in learning. The position is clear, but the overall development lacks the depth required for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often repetitive and mechanical. For example, the frequent use of 'Many students' at the start of consecutive sentences makes the flow feel disjointed. There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas between sentences and paragraphs. While the progression of ideas is generally logical, the transitions are often abrupt. To improve, try using a wider variety of cohesive devices such as 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' 'in contrast,' or 'on the other hand' to better link your arguments and create a smoother flow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You rely heavily on simple phrases like 'many students,' 'new countries,' and 'boring routine.' There are some attempts at more specific vocabulary, such as 'traditions' and 'cultures,' but these are not integrated into complex or nuanced sentences. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'holidays will be not waste' (should be 'would not be a waste') and 'earn by their self' (should be 'earn for themselves'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise synonyms and collocations to express your ideas with greater clarity and variety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many countries gives,' 'students visits'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'last years was'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several sentence fragments that should be joined to the preceding clause. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors limits the score. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and a correctly conjugated verb will significantly improve your accuracy.
