Student answer (Band 6.0)
In many countries, primary and secondary schools close for two months or more in the summer holidays in my opinion the long holidays is not valuable for the students because in the holidays all the students did not prepare their lesson and in this period they forgot all the syllabus. I prefer a shorter holidays.
At the start I want to talk about a disadvantages of the long holidays in the school. The teachers of the school give a syllabus to children for preparing in their holidays but when the school was close the children thought now we are free from the boring routine of school in their holidays they did not prepare their tasks and they forgot all the syllabus and all the students forgot their syllabus those who prepare before the holidays because the children is not prepare their tasks in their vacation.
On the other hand I want to talk about the advantages of the short school holidays and I prefer the short holidays in school for primary and secondary students because when the students was not not absent from the school for a long time they are in his routine and the short vacation is not very big problem for the student in short holidays the students get refreshment and the syllabus of their study those who learn before the holidays the students did not forget because they did miss for a long time from school.
To sum up, I prefer the long vacation from the school is very harmful for the students future when a long holidays come at the time the routine of student is completely changed therefore i prefer a short holidays for the student.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The argument focuses almost exclusively on the 'forgetting of the syllabus' as the primary reason for both the lack of value in long holidays and the benefit of short ones. To achieve a higher band, you should explore other dimensions, such as the social benefits of long breaks, the impact on teacher burnout, or the economic implications for families. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments lack depth and variety, leading to a somewhat circular discussion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by repetitive phrasing and a lack of varied cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are often mechanical or missing, making the flow feel disjointed. For example, the phrase 'I want to talk about' is used repeatedly, which is an informal way to structure an essay. The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when referring back to 'the syllabus' or 'the tasks'. Improving the use of linking words like 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in contrast' would help create a more logical flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use the same words, such as 'syllabus', 'holidays', 'students', and 'tasks', throughout the text. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions. To improve, you should aim to use synonyms and more precise academic collocations. For instance, instead of saying 'the routine of student is completely changed', you could use 'disrupts the academic momentum'. The word choice is functional but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors, such as 'when the school was close the children thought' (tense inconsistency) and 'the children is not prepare' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing commas. The frequent errors in verb tense and agreement occasionally impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and using a wider variety of complex structures with greater accuracy.
