Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide examples like Canada and Japan, the explanation of these points is repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the argument regarding 'brain development' is mentioned but not fully explored. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by a detailed explanation and a concrete example that directly supports the point. The conclusion is also quite brief and merely restates the prompt rather than synthesising the arguments presented.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'Although if there is long period of vacations' is used incorrectly to introduce a point, and 'In which pupil get a time' is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow. Transitions between sentences are sometimes missing or forced, making the progression of ideas feel disjointed. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'conversely') more naturally to connect your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'shutdowns the schools' instead of 'shutting down schools', and 'take participate' instead of 'participate'. You also rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'long period of vacations' and 'spend time'. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to education and child development, and work on using collocations more accurately to express your ideas with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('teachers has to put', 'pupils start forgot'), article usage ('the summers', 'the enough time'), and sentence fragments. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed with correct subordinate clauses.
