Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The essay falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the depth of the response. While the position is generally clear, the arguments lack sufficient elaboration or specific, well-integrated examples. To improve, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and ensure you meet the minimum word count to allow for a fully developed argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' without varied transitions. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. The conclusion attempts to summarise the points but is somewhat fragmented. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word-choice errors, such as 'long time school holiday' instead of 'long school holidays' and 'proper better' instead of 'perform better'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of less common or more precise lexical items. To reach a higher band, focus on using more varied and accurate collocations and avoid repeating the same words throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('the longer time school summer vacation is help'), incorrect verb forms ('easily going to school'), and punctuation errors. These errors are noticeable and occasionally cause the reader some difficulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct tense usage, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect prepositions.
