Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is widely believed that summer vacations are the most enjoyable period for students. Students can focus on their extra-curricular activities, or they can go on a trip with their family members that's why authorities are giving two months or more for student for their development and to reduce their academic pressure.
The main reason of giving long summer holiday is for student's health. Extreme heat is affecting child's health, and they became sick for few days and cannot concentrate on their studies as a result they score lower in their academics. That's why authorities are granting summer vacations in the favor of students and teachers. For instance, there was an article in The Hindustan times about a school who continues their school in the may month and due to 45-degree temperature majority of students are affected by sun stroke.
However, short school holidays are also beneficial for students, and they can relax at their home and spend some time with their family, and they can do a fresh restart of their new- grades and they get more days to prepare for their exams and no backlogs are created and they score good grades in exam. For example, Amrutam school is giving 25 days summer holidays and students are satisfied with that and they cannot feel bored at home due to long summer holidays.
In conclusion, although long summer breaks are offering students to focus on other activities and students can go to their maternal uncle's home and do lots of fun with their cousins, but short summer breaks are enough for the pupil to relax and score good in their school.

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|
| Task Achievement / Task Response | 7.0 |
| Coherence and Cohesion | 6.5 |
| Lexical Resource | 7.0 |
| Grammatical Range and Accuracy | 6.5 |
| Overall | 7.0 |
Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses the task by discussing both the value of long school holidays and arguments for shorter holidays, which fulfills the requirements. However, the depth of argumentation could be improved, particularly in supporting examples and explanations. For instance, while the article reference to heat is relevant, more detailed examples could strengthen the argument about the benefits of long holidays. This aspect suggests a score of around 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The coherence and cohesion in the text are adequate, although the organization could be improved. The response begins with clear points about long holidays, but transitions could be smoother. For example, using more varied linking words and phrases would enhance the flow. Sentences like "However, short school holidays are also beneficial..." could be better connected to the preceding paragraph. This suggests a score of 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The lexical resource demonstrates a reasonable range, including some relevant terminology such as "extra-curricular activities" and "academic pressure." However, there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as "in the favor of students and teachers," which could be simplified. The repetition of some terms like "students" also detracts from lexical variety. This leads to a score around 6.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
Grammatical accuracy is mixed. There are various errors, including issues with singular/plural forms (e.g., "student's health" should be "students' health"), article usage, and sentence structure. Some sentences are overly complex and convoluted, which affects clarity. Overall, accuracy detracts somewhat from the message, resulting in a score of approximately 6.
Overall feedback
Your essay effectively discusses the merits of long summer holidays as well as the advantages of shorter ones, meeting the task requirements. However, to improve your score, focus on providing clearer examples and enhancing the organization of your ideas. Develop your arguments with more detail and ensure smoother transitions between paragraphs. Additionally, work on reducing grammatical errors and diversifying your vocabulary to make your writing more sophisticated. Practicing these aspects will lead to a stronger, more cohesive essay in the future.
