Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 188 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the prompt asks for both the value of long holidays and arguments for shorter ones, the response is disjointed and fails to clearly articulate these points. The arguments provided are underdeveloped and often confusing, such as the claim that schools are 'conduct tiny break learners not attentive'. Because the response is significantly under-length and the ideas are not fully explored or supported with relevant examples, it does not adequately address the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay lacks a logical flow. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the transitions between ideas are abrupt and often nonsensical, such as the shift from mental health to 'technological era' in the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used incorrectly or are absent, making it difficult to follow the writer's train of thought. The introduction is confusing, referring to 'both nations' when the prompt discusses school systems, which indicates a lack of control over the structure of the argument. The overall progression of ideas is not clear.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is very limited and often inaccurate, which frequently impedes communication. Phrases like 'twice months' instead of 'two months' and 'principal behind mental health' instead of 'principle' or 'rationale' demonstrate a lack of control. The writer struggles to use appropriate terminology for an academic essay, relying on repetitive and basic language. There is little evidence of the ability to use less common lexical items or collocations effectively. The errors in word choice are frequent and often make the intended meaning difficult to decipher.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that make the text difficult to read. There is a lack of control over basic sentence structures, with many sentences being fragmented or ungrammatical, such as 'educators not long break at school, they are not active in any activity'. Subject-verb agreement, article usage, and tense consistency are consistently problematic. There is no evidence of complex sentence structures, and the high frequency of errors means that the reader must constantly struggle to interpret the intended meaning of the sentences.
