Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt but fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the student attempts to discuss the value of holidays and the arguments for shorter ones, the ideas are repetitive and lack depth. The arguments regarding 'dangerous diseases' and 'ozone layer' are somewhat tangential and not well-supported. The position is not clearly maintained throughout the essay, and the conclusion is extremely brief and lacks a summary of the main points. To improve, the student needs to expand on each point with clear examples and ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed with sufficient detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no introduction, and the body paragraphs are poorly organized, making it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are almost entirely absent, and the transition between sentences is mechanical or non-existent. For example, the shift from discussing government policy to environmental concerns is abrupt. Paragraphing is not used effectively to separate distinct ideas. To achieve a higher score, the student should use linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'on the other hand') and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic words like 'good', 'bad', 'hot', and 'children' throughout the text. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'take part in children body' and 'pollution is so more'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding. The student needs to expand their vocabulary to include more precise, academic terms related to education and health to convey their ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, tense usage, and sentence structure. For instance, 'the government can also announced' and 'the children are do work' are grammatically incorrect. Punctuation is also problematic, with many run-on sentences that lack proper clause separation. The lack of complex structures prevents the student from demonstrating a higher level of control. To improve, the student should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring consistent verb tense usage.
