Student answer (Band 6.5)

In many countries especially countries with hot climates give's summer holidays to primary and secondary students due to extremely hot weathers in those areas. This event usually occur in June, July and half of the august.

These vacations often occur in countries like India, Pakistan, and some Middle Eastern countries. These vacations have special value to the children because they wait all year to escape the chaos of school and the burden from everyday difficulties. Students are often given with some kind of holiday homework which helps them get along with the studies and they can enjoy their vacations too.

The question of shorter holidays is that sometimes the vacation gets too long and the students get lazy and most of the time they lose interest in studies which leads to failure, less focus in class and it becomes difficult for them to get backing their old routine.

Teachers often have to work more for such students and it really becomes difficult for the parents too keep children at home it affects their development they don't learn much at home as much as they were learning at schools before the vacations.

In my opinion they vacations should be not more then 2 months and the students should be given proper schedule for work and should be given assignments for their development. Parents should involve them in proper activities so they can learn many new activities in their free time. In this way their vacations won't go in vein and they will be able to learn new things like sports, skills, cooking, and they can work on their weak spots.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development is somewhat superficial. While you mention that students 'wait all year to escape the chaos of school,' this point could be expanded with more specific benefits, such as mental rejuvenation or family bonding. Similarly, the arguments for shorter holidays are clear, but the explanation regarding 'laziness' and 'failure' is a bit repetitive. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with concrete examples or logical consequences rather than just stating the idea. Your position is clear throughout, which is a strength.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. You rely heavily on simple transitions like 'In my opinion' or 'In this way.' There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas within sentences or between paragraphs. For instance, the transition between the benefits of holidays and the drawbacks of long holidays is abrupt. Improving the variety of your cohesive devices and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this event,' 'these vacations') is always clear will help improve the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'primary and secondary students' and 'development.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing or word choice errors, such as 'give's summer holidays' (should be 'give summer holidays') and 'get backing their old routine' (should be 'get back into'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations. Avoid repetitive phrasing, such as using 'vacations' and 'holidays' interchangeably without clear purpose, and focus on using more sophisticated synonyms to demonstrate a wider range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('This event usually occur'), incorrect preposition usage ('given with some kind of holiday homework'), and punctuation errors (missing commas, incorrect use of 'then' instead of 'than'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately. Practising the correct use of articles and prepositions will also be beneficial.
