Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that primary and secondary school close for two months or more in their summer vacation . Vacation is going hold in the end month of june and reopened in the month of july .

On first hand , school were remain closed approximately two month in summer vacation because it is the peak time of summer and children of primary and secondary classes needs a long vacation . There are many benefits of long vacation such as ; they can focus on their health and other should they live inside because if they go to school in peak time of summer it effect on their health and parents should take their children to doctor so holiday should be extended . Adult student can tolerate the summer but kids cannot they need the long vacation , so they focus on their health .

On other hand it was not beneficial for extend holiday in summer because they cannot study properly at their house. They should give time to their another activities such as social networking, video games , watching . Teacher should call them to school so they can study properly .

I think that school will remain open in july but they opened school for less hours . But some pricaution should be taken for children . Ac should take place in classroom , they need a great care of their children ; they should provide a watercooler to the kids so they improve their health . It is very necessary to attend in shorter time so they focus on their study .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. For example, the argument regarding health is mentioned multiple times without being fully explored or supported with specific examples. The position is somewhat clear, but the lack of depth in reasoning prevents a higher score. The response would benefit from more detailed explanations of the educational or social implications of school schedules rather than focusing primarily on physical health and air conditioning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the use of 'On first hand' and 'On other hand', which are non-standard phrases. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where the subject of 'they' shifts between students, teachers, and school administrators. The progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed, and the transition between the benefits of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones lacks a smooth logical flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'Vacation is going hold', 'effect on their health' (instead of 'affect'), and 'pricaution'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of variety and the presence of basic errors in spelling and word formation restrict the score. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific collocations and ensuring correct word forms are used in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they are often grammatically incorrect, such as 'they should provide a watercooler to the kids so they improve their health'. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('school were remain closed', 'children... needs'), article usage, and tense consistency. Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent spacing around punctuation marks. These errors are frequent and occasionally make the reader work harder to understand the intended meaning, which is characteristic of the Band 5 level.
