Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The argument regarding environmental pollution is a bit tangential and not clearly linked to the educational value of school holidays. The position is clear, but the supporting points, such as the niece learning piano, are brief and could be expanded to provide a more comprehensive answer. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point directly relates to the educational or developmental impact of the holiday length.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a logical flow between the introduction, body, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Overall', though some transitions are slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'In the below paragraphs, i explained'. The referencing is generally clear, but the connection between the environmental argument and the topic of school holidays is weak, which affects the overall logical progression of the argument. Paragraphing is present but could be more effectively utilized to separate distinct ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express basic ideas. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'crucial role' and 'personality development', but there are also noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'noice' instead of 'noise' and 'surronding'. Some collocations are unnatural, such as 'travelling by school buses' and 'making their journeys'. The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but the errors occasionally draw attention to the language rather than the content.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('long Summer holidays plays'), missing articles ('there is an another important reason'), and punctuation errors. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. The student attempts complex sentences, but they often contain errors that affect the flow and clarity of the writing. Improving control over basic grammar and sentence construction will be key to increasing this score.
