Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development is quite limited. The ideas are presented in a very general way, often lacking the depth or specific examples required for a higher band. For instance, the discussion on the 'value' of holidays is brief and focuses heavily on the specific context of Pakistan rather than the broader educational or developmental benefits. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments are under-developed and lack the necessary extension to fully satisfy the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While there is an attempt to use linking words like 'On the other hand' and 'Therefore', the flow between sentences is often disjointed. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'improve these mistake that way loss of students education', which makes it difficult to follow the writer's train of thought. Paragraphing is present but does not always group related ideas effectively, leading to a somewhat fragmented structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits the ability to convey complex ideas. There are several instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'nibbling' (likely meaning siblings) and 'carrier' (meant to be career). The range of vocabulary is narrow, relying on simple, high-frequency words. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of precision and the presence of errors in word formation and collocation prevent the response from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the school are closed', 'it become very difficult'), incorrect article usage, and punctuation errors. Complex structures are attempted but are often faulty, such as 'It will be prove very helpful'. These errors are frequent and occasionally cause the reader to pause, although the overall message remains discernible. A greater variety of error-free complex sentences is needed to improve this score.
