Student answer (Band 5.0)

In many countries primary and secondary schools closed for two months or more in summer holidays. While these holidays are very benefit for students and some people argue to shorter school holidays.

I think long school holidays are benefit for student if students are good utalize this time. In many countries the temperature is very high. So its need of all the students to take holidays. For example when i study in higher school due to board exam my school was open due to this one student nose was bleeding due to hot weather. Its also benefit for student learning if students manage this holidays in very good way like trips, outing, playing, etc.

Meanwhile many people believe to shorter these school holidays because students are not study in holidays due to this it has very bad impact on study. I think students also need to study different new things in holiday that also help him in future. For Example when i was a student in summer holidays i was learning many new chapters from my course that i not study in school. It was also help me when schools were open. Nowadays students are very careless he spend all of the holidays in enjoy and trips that's why many people argue in favours of shorter holidays. But if students manage this holidays than its benefit for both student health and study.

In conclusion many school holidays is benefit for student health. Student spend time with family, play games, trips, learning new things, etc. In my opinion long holidays is benefital for students health and study.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. The arguments regarding health and academic performance are introduced but lack depth or sophisticated reasoning. For instance, the point about hot weather is a valid observation, but it is not fully explored in a broader educational context. The position is clear throughout, but the supporting examples, such as the personal anecdote about nosebleeds, are slightly informal and lack the analytical tone expected in an academic task. To improve, you should aim to expand on the implications of your points rather than simply listing them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. Phrases like 'For example' and 'In conclusion' are used correctly, but there is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas within and between sentences. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'due to this one student nose was bleeding', where the connection to the previous clause is awkward. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the flow is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors that make the relationship between sentences difficult to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but it is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use the word 'benefit' (e.g., 'very benefit', 'is benefit', 'is benefital'), which indicates a lack of control over word forms and collocations. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'utalize' (utilize) and 'careless' (when 'unproductive' or 'unfocused' might be more precise). To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary and use it with greater precision, avoiding the repetition of basic terms and ensuring that word forms (nouns, adjectives, verbs) are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'schools closed' instead of 'close', 'students are not study'), tense usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain errors in complex structures, such as 'that i not study in school'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and apostrophes. While the meaning is generally understandable, the persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic agreement errors is essential.
