Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the need for relaxation and the Finnish education system, the explanation remains superficial. Similarly, the argument for shorter holidays focuses on curriculum coverage but lacks depth regarding the potential academic benefits or social implications. To reach a higher band, ensure that each main point is supported by a clear, logical explanation or a more detailed example. Your position is clear, but the overall development of the arguments needs more elaboration to fully satisfy the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore' to signal transitions between ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the logical progression is slightly hindered by awkward phrasing, such as in the conclusion where the sentence structure is repetitive and grammatically strained. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid and natural.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'competitive', 'curriculum', and 'paramount'. However, there are several spelling errors ('hollidays', 'argumants', 'Findland', 'syallubs', 'conculsion') and issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'cover up their syllabus' (should be 'cover the syllabus') and 'give children to extra pressuer'. These errors occasionally distract the reader. To achieve a higher score, focus on accurate spelling and using collocations that sound more natural in an academic context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include incorrect verb forms ('Learning new things can be happend'), preposition misuse, and awkward sentence construction ('give children to extra pressuer'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, the correct use of passive voice, and basic sentence structure. Proofreading for small errors like missing articles or incorrect verb tenses will significantly enhance your accuracy.
