Student answer (Band 6.0)

In some nations, in summer vacations, primary and secondary schools are closed for 60 days . One section of society opine that it is good idea. While, others disagreed with it. I will discuss both viewpoints in the upcoming paragraphs.

To commence with, children can spend more quality time with their parents. First of all, children usually spend their whole day at school due to which they spend only a few hours with their family but in summer holidays they might be made strong bonding with them. Moreover, following daily routine might be boring for children and in breaks between studies for two months is the best idea for relaxation and they can do whatever they want such as playing outdoor and indoor games, and also get a chance to develop these skills and make their career in these fields.

However, some individuals think that holidays could be for short term. After a long gap from study may leads to lose their interest in education they might struggle to start following their everyday routine which can be results into low grades in exams. For example, a survey was conducted in the USA, which showed that in which nations summer vacations are for more than a month students achieved low grades in studies.

To conclude, summer holidays are not a bad idea for pupils, but schools should provide them online classes in vacation, so children should not lose their interest and also enjoy their holidays and spend more time with their family and reletives

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you mention family bonding and relaxation, these points are not fully explored with detailed examples. The argument for shorter holidays is supported by a general reference to a survey in the USA, which is a good attempt at providing evidence, but the explanation of why grades drop is brief. To improve, ensure that each main idea is supported by a clear, logical explanation or a more specific example to demonstrate a deeper understanding of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', 'However', and 'To conclude' to signal transitions between ideas. However, some of the linking is mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the benefits of holidays and the drawbacks could be more sophisticated. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the phrase 'in which nations' in the third paragraph, which disrupts the logical progression of the sentence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'primary and secondary schools', 'vacation', and 'grades'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing or word choice, such as 'might be made strong bonding' (should be 'might form a strong bond') and 'reletives' (spelling error). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary to express your ideas with greater nuance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'One section of society opine' (subject-verb agreement), 'After a long gap from study may leads to lose' (incorrect verb structure), and 'which can be results into' (incorrect passive/active construction). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct use of modal verbs and prepositions to ensure your complex sentences are error-free.
