Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development is inconsistent. While you provide some relevant points, such as family bonding and physical fitness, the arguments are often repetitive or lack depth. For instance, the discussion on academic progress is somewhat circular. The position is clear, but the conclusion contradicts the earlier body paragraph by suggesting shorter breaks are better for emotional bonding, which creates confusion. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a distinct, well-supported idea and maintain a consistent stance throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'To embark with' are non-standard, and transitions between sentences are frequently abrupt. The logical flow is hindered by the lack of clear signposting; for example, the shift between the benefits of long holidays and the drawbacks is jarring. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of your argument. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words will significantly enhance the readability of your work.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors that occasionally impede understanding (e.g., 'ling', 'secendary', 'aecademic', 'techare', 'breck'). You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle with collocations, such as 'streessfull about their syllabus' or 'explore for new places'. While you attempt to use some topic-specific terms like 'academic progress' and 'wellbeing', the high frequency of spelling mistakes and word-choice errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of vocabulary. Focusing on learning word families and correct spelling will help you move to a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'teacher can improves'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence structures. Punctuation is also problematic, with many missing spaces after commas and periods. While you attempt some complex sentences, they are often marred by errors that make the meaning unclear. The majority of your sentences are simple, and the lack of control over basic grammar significantly affects the clarity of your writing. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and consistent punctuation before attempting more complex structures.
