Student answer (Band 5.0)

In various countries, primary and secondary schools close for two months or for more than two months.

At the coming of summer season, schools get ready to gave holidays to students and gave them some task which they had to prepare in these days. Students feel free in these days because they had nothing to do in these days and they forget their sense of manners.

In my opinion, holidays are very important for students because in free days they had an occasion to enjoy with friends, social activities, plays, family members but these holidays would not be more than one month because one month is enough for child to enjoy themselves. For example, In summer holidays, child enjoy themselves in some activities such as cricket match.

Shorter school holidays are very essential for students because it protects them from loss of study and promote them to encourage and avoid to bad habits.

I request to our government that they should need to low the ratio of summer holidays because it can prove very bad for students. For example, when the child goes to school, he will run to progress and can be improved very successful and can be prof proud for their parents.

So summer holidays should be allowed but no more than limited access because it can be danger for child life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address both parts of the prompt—the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones—the ideas are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting evidence or examples. The arguments are presented in a very simplistic manner, and the position is not consistently maintained or clearly articulated. To improve, you must expand on your points with detailed explanations and relevant examples to reach the required length and demonstrate a deeper engagement with the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. The transition between the value of holidays and the arguments for shorter ones is abrupt. Cohesive devices are used in a very limited and sometimes mechanical way, such as the repetitive use of 'In my opinion' and 'For example'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of your argument. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus that connects logically to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits your ability to express complex ideas. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'low the ratio of summer holidays' instead of 'reduce the duration' and 'prof proud' which is unclear. The range of vocabulary is insufficient for an academic task, relying heavily on simple, everyday language. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to education and time management, and practice using synonyms to avoid repeating the same words throughout the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with verb tense consistency (e.g., 'schools get ready to gave' instead of 'give'), subject-verb agreement, and article usage. The sentence structures are predominantly simple, with very few attempts at complex sentences. When complex structures are attempted, they are often inaccurate, such as 'when the child goes to school, he will run to progress'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of tenses before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
