Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the claim that long holidays help improve communication skills is mentioned twice without a clear explanation of how this occurs. The arguments regarding shorter holidays are also repetitive and lack depth. While a position is stated, the supporting points are often generalized and lack logical progression. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations and specific, well-integrated examples that clearly link back to the prompt's core questions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which is a positive feature. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For instance, the transition 'As a results' is grammatically incorrect, and the use of 'Therefor' and 'instance of' (instead of 'instead of') disrupts the flow. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the abrupt transition between sentences in the second paragraph. While there is an overall progression, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the frequent errors in cohesion make the text feel disjointed at times. Improving the variety and accuracy of transition signals will significantly enhance the readability.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is a reliance on basic vocabulary, and several word-choice errors occur, such as 'developed' instead of 'develop' and 'provide' used incorrectly in context. Some phrases are repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'important activity'. There are also instances of incorrect collocations, such as 'back their study'. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that words are used in their correct grammatical form and context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'schools provides', 'many schools has provided'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'helps to developed'), and punctuation errors, such as the misuse of full stops where commas should be used. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will help improve your score.
