Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many countries have primary and secondary schools in which their is a summer holidays for two months or sometimes it lasting more.

Pros and arguments of these holidays will be discussed in this essay with a suitable conclusion.

In our country, children are studied for seven to eight months on a daily basis without any long term holidays. In fact, the purpose of these holidays in summer is vital to make sure the prosperity of our children in which distinct stages are included from enjoyment to their good health. The prime example is that, if they are struggling for their studies for the long term without any outing then they will not solely spoil their health but also they become bore from their studies which is not benefical for them. Therefore, vacations are crucial for the children.

These vacations now become controversial between many groups with different claims. Some are not in the favour of long term holidays, they claim that holidays must be short due to competition in education sector which have been rose enormously all over the world. In addition to, they argue that many children spend these holidays in useless activities instead of learning something new.

I also believe that second preposition appears to be more useful, rational and suitable. I explain it with suitable example, my cousin which is only 7 years old, plays all the time during holidays instead of giving some time to his studies. I think, this is not rational for his future because he will decline his education progress with the help of these bad habits.

In a nutshell, long holidays have both pros and cons, but it depends on the parents who guide their children regarding their time spend in useful activities or not.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding the 'competition in education' is mentioned but not sufficiently expanded upon with specific examples or logical depth. The personal example of the cousin is relevant but lacks a broader connection to the educational debate. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments would benefit from more academic depth and less reliance on anecdotal evidence to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'In addition to, they argue' or 'I explain it with suitable example'. The transition between the two main body paragraphs is functional but could be smoother. While the overall progression is logical, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved to create a more cohesive argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher score. There are several instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'children are studied' (should be 'children study'), 'become bore' (should be 'become bored'), and 'decline his education progress' (should be 'hinder his academic progress'). The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but the errors in word formation and collocation are noticeable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'their is a summer holidays' (subject-verb agreement and article error), 'if they are struggling for their studies' (preposition error), and 'my cousin which is only 7 years old' (relative pronoun error). While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. More attention to basic sentence construction and verb forms is needed.
