Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. For example, the argument for shorter holidays is confusingly framed, as the student suggests that shorter holidays would lead to parents arguing with schools because students 'did not enjoy their vacation,' which is a circular and somewhat illogical point. The essay lacks depth and specific examples, relying on general statements. To improve, you should provide more concrete, logical justifications for your points rather than repeating the same ideas in different ways.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'On that note' and 'Beyond doubt' are used somewhat unnaturally. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the progression of ideas within paragraphs is hindered by repetitive phrasing. For instance, the conclusion merely restates the points made in the body paragraphs without adding any synthesis or final perspective. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words will help the flow of your writing significantly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts the ability to convey ideas with precision. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'schools are give too much burden' instead of 'schools place too much burden' and 'feel relax' instead of 'feel relaxed'. The range of vocabulary is basic, and the student struggles to use less common lexical items effectively. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary rather than repeating simple words like 'study', 'vacation', and 'hobbies'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('this phenomenon have', 'student get'), incorrect verb forms ('schools are give'), and missing articles. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often contain errors, such as 'if school give short holidays then the student did not get enough time'. You need to focus on basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that verb tenses are used consistently throughout the essay.
