Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is limited and sometimes unclear. For instance, the explanation of why long holidays are beneficial is somewhat repetitive and lacks specific, logical examples. The arguments for shorter holidays are also underdeveloped, focusing more on the inability of students to focus rather than systemic educational or social benefits. The position is present but lacks the depth required for a higher band score, as the reasoning often feels disjointed or circular.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The introduction is poorly structured, and the transition between ideas is often abrupt. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', 'Therefore'), they are often used mechanically or incorrectly, which hinders the flow of the argument. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall structure lacks the sophisticated organisation needed for a higher score. The essay feels like a collection of loosely related sentences rather than a cohesive argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'student built up', 'knowledge bulit up', and 'results are strong communicational level'. The student attempts to use some academic vocabulary, but it is often used inaccurately or in a way that does not fit the context. Basic spelling errors (e.g., 'fron', 'exibition', 'olidays') are also present. The range is sufficient to convey the basic message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently marred by grammatical errors. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and punctuation (e.g., 'In the first part i will explain', 'it play effective role'). Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, which makes the text difficult to read. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar significantly impacts the quality of the writing.
