Student answer (Band 6.0)

Most of the countries grants summer vacations for middle secondary and higher secondary schools for almost two or more months. In the upcoming paragraphs, what is the value of longer school holidays an also what are the reasons for arguments related to shorter school vacations are briefly explain with some examples.

To begin with, many institutions in the country gives longer holidays to the students in the summer time, it happens due to many reasons such as high temperature of weather. Children are extremely soft to handle the warm weather, thats why schools provides longer holiday break just to cope up with the weather at the safest place home. Moreover, Summer is also a time for families to spend a good time together by travelling different places with their children, so long breaks are also meant to relax and refresh the mind from a continuous long year of studies. For example, Due to global warming, earth is warming more and more especially in the summer time, and many people lost their lives from heatstrokes, so for protection reasons government are the one who announce summer break time to school authorities.

On the other side, some arguments are in the favour of short summer vacations instead of long breaks. It is because, nowadays, both parents are working professionals and they don't have much time to taking care of their children all day long, so they want less breaks to continue their daily routine smoothly.

To conclude, it is essential for children to have a summer holidays for a specific time period but it should be important for institutes to decide a balanced timeline for holiday

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The first body paragraph provides clear reasons (weather and family time), but the second body paragraph regarding shorter holidays is quite brief and lacks depth. While the position is clear, the ideas could be extended further to reach a higher band. The introduction is a bit repetitive and slightly informal in its phrasing, but it does set up the essay structure adequately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other side', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the sentence 'government are the one who announce'. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and does not fully synthesise the arguments presented, but the overall structure remains coherent and easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices or collocations, such as 'extremely soft to handle the warm weather' and 'take care of their children all day long'. Some phrasing is repetitive, and the student relies on basic vocabulary to express ideas. To improve, the student should focus on using more sophisticated collocations and academic terminology related to education and social structures.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Most of the countries grants', 'schools provides', 'government are the one') and awkward phrasing ('what is the value of longer school holidays an also what are the reasons'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in sentence construction. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit the score in this criterion.
