Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the mention of school maintenance and the impact on parental supervision. However, the development is occasionally hindered by imprecise phrasing, such as 'academically rest' and 'too playfully'. While the position is clear, the depth of analysis could be improved by exploring the educational implications of long breaks more thoroughly. Overall, the response covers all requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'People that are not in support of longer holiday felt these way'. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the flow between the need for rest and the need for school maintenance could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'redevelopment', 'compensate', and 'comprehension'. However, there are several instances of inaccurate word choice and collocation, such as 'academically rest', 'substantially period', and 'too playfully'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. A more varied and accurate use of collocations would elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('vacations... lasted', 'parent finds', 'child that have'), tense consistency, and article usage. Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some issues with comma placement and spacing. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the text. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring consistency in verb tenses.
