Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. The ideas are relevant, such as personal growth and skill development for long breaks, and productivity and routine for short ones. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The introduction is slightly weak, and some points, such as the mention of 'government schools' and 'bad health' due to heat, are not fully explained or logically connected to the broader argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported by a clear explanation or example rather than listing several ideas in a single sentence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. There is a logical progression from the benefits of long holidays to the counter-arguments for shorter ones. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'It our enhances travelling' or the repetitive use of 'short breaks' and 'long breaks' as sentence starters. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'procrastination', 'momentum', and 'productivity'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'most hottest season' (a double superlative), 'mentally break' (should be 'mental break'), and 'pursue there hobbies' (incorrect homophone). These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the score as they demonstrate a lack of precision in more complex expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'holidays can be beneficial depends on'), missing articles, and incorrect word forms (e.g., 'It our enhances'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with run-on sentences where ideas are joined without appropriate conjunctions or punctuation. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with correct subordinate clauses.
