Student answer (Band 6.0)
In numerous nations , elementary and intermediate schools close for about two months or more in the summer holidays. Some individuals believe long school holidays are valuable and other argue that shorter school holidays are beneficial.Ahead of my opinion both views will be discussed further and elaborated with relevant examples.
The foremost argument to support the former opinion is long period break from school assist juveniles to learn new skills and to explore different places. This is to provide them enough time to relax and enjoy the leisure time effectively and productively. Moreover, it will allow them to secure themselves from heat stroke as they remain in their houses instead of going out for study. In Summers owing to extreme heat weather forecasters advised individuals to stay at home and enjoy juices to keep your body hydrated and fresh.
On the contrary, others claim that shorter school holidays are favourable as students will lose their habit of study as they engage in extracurricular activities and by ignoring their summer task they may become lazy and unresponsive toward school. In addition, by shorter holidays they can achieve their school task at time without any delay due to summer break. This allows them to learn their term task effectively and timely without any pressure.Additionally, they are able to keep in touch with friends and teachers and without hesitation can ask help from them.
To conclude and offer my position, these are convincing arguments for both longer break and shorter break in summer in schools. However, I certainly favor the latter opinion.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development is somewhat limited. The points regarding 'heat stroke' and 'drinking juices' are not particularly relevant to the educational value of holidays, and the arguments for shorter holidays are repetitive, focusing mainly on 'school tasks'. To reach a higher band, you should provide more substantial, academic arguments, such as the impact on learning retention or the socioeconomic benefits for working parents. Your position is clear, but the supporting ideas lack depth and academic focus.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover', 'On the contrary', and 'Additionally'. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Ahead of my opinion'. The progression of ideas within paragraphs is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be smoother to improve the flow of the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints, which helps the reader follow your structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'juveniles', 'extracurricular', and 'unresponsive'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'secure themselves from heat stroke' (protect themselves) and 'learn their term task' (complete their coursework). Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'Ahead of my opinion'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'other argue' (others argue), 'long period break' (a long break), and 'in Summers' (in summer). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are instances of missing spaces after commas and periods. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency and accuracy of the writing.
