Student answer (Band 5.0)

Countries offers long holidays in educational institutes in summers. The main reason of these holidays is to protect the children from the heat waves. These holidays are much important to safe childrens lives.

Here are some reasons that support my idea: firstly, in summers the weather is too much hot like temperature in UK is about 40 degrees and in Pakistan it is almost 45 degrees. During these conditions it is diificult to protect students from the exteme weather.

Secondly, it is difficult for the parents to pick and drop their childs in Schools. Thirdly, It is tough for teachers to mange a number of students in summers phyically.

Moreever most of the people do not have any personal transportation and most of the countries specially in Asian side the public transportation has no benefits.

If I talk about myself when I was in school and summer vacations were announced. It makes me happy I had too much plans for the summer holidays.

But the thing is that even long holidays were announced but with a assignments or a homework that students have to do during these days.

Also, institutes conduct online classes if there important to cover the syllabus.

One more important thing in summer holidays educations institues contact summer sessions or pre-classes for the new students so they can know their area of interest for further studies.

Also institutes contact classes for those students who wants to improve their marks and grades. It helps students to repeat a subject in vacations againist reading the same same in the whole semester or a year

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development is uneven. While the reasons for long holidays (heat, safety) are clear, the arguments for shorter holidays are less structured and rely heavily on personal anecdotes rather than broader societal or educational perspectives. The ideas are somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding summer school sessions. To improve, you should provide more balanced, analytical arguments for shorter holidays, such as the impact on learning retention or the logistical challenges for working parents, rather than focusing primarily on personal experience or specific school activities.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay uses basic cohesive devices like 'firstly', 'secondly', and 'moreover' to organize ideas, which provides a basic structure. However, the paragraphing is problematic; the text is fragmented into many short, disjointed paragraphs that hinder the flow of the argument. The progression of ideas is sometimes unclear, particularly when transitioning from the benefits of long holidays to the discussion of summer school sessions. To reach a higher band, you should group related ideas into cohesive paragraphs and use a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences and ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'too much hot', 'pick and drop', and 'mange a number of students' are either grammatically incorrect or informal. There is a lack of precise academic vocabulary; for instance, 'contact classes' is used instead of 'conduct classes'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the range is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. To improve, focus on learning collocations and more formal synonyms for everyday verbs and adjectives, and ensure you use words in their correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('Countries offers', 'childs'), incorrect pluralization, and awkward sentence structures ('in summers the weather is too much hot'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary capitalization and missing commas. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, you must focus on basic subject-verb agreement, correct plural forms, and the use of more complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences, while ensuring accuracy in your basic grammar.
