Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the response is under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of development. While the ideas are relevant, they are somewhat underdeveloped; for instance, the argument regarding 'personal growth' is mentioned but lacks specific, concrete examples. Furthermore, the conclusion is contradictory, as it suggests shorter holidays are more favourable after previously arguing for the benefits of long ones. The position is not consistently maintained throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'On the other hand the pros of shorter school holidays it is also clear that is facilities education procerses'. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the logical progression is hindered by grammatical errors that make it difficult to follow the writer's train of thought. Paragraphing is present but the internal flow within paragraphs is weak.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are frequent spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'ferst', 'examne', 'spere', 'doig', 'spefic', 'fiedd', 'litterate', and 'qequired'. These errors occasionally impede communication. The range of vocabulary is basic, and there is little attempt to use less common or more precise lexical items. The word choice is often imprecise, such as 'huge of information' or 'education steam', which suggests a lack of control over collocation and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies on a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentences, but the accuracy is low. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('student do not have'), verb forms ('could not forgot'), and sentence structure ('which not only make them creative... but also them help to boost'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and incorrect sentence boundaries. These errors are frequent and often force the reader to re-read sections to understand the intended meaning, which is characteristic of a Band 5 performance.
