Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay addresses both parts of the prompt—the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones—the points are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting evidence or examples. The ideas are presented in a very brief, list-like manner, and the conclusion is incomplete. To improve, you must expand on your arguments with detailed explanations and relevant examples to reach the required length and demonstrate a deeper understanding of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the logical progression of ideas is weak. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'On the one hand'). Some sentences are fragmented or lack clear connections to the previous thought, making the flow of the argument disjointed. The conclusion is particularly abrupt and does not effectively summarize the main points. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would greatly enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'bad', 'hotness', and 'enjoyment', which restricts your ability to express complex ideas precisely. There are also errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'international journey' instead of 'international travel' and 'lose in studies' instead of 'academic regression'. To achieve a higher band score, you need to incorporate a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary and demonstrate more control over word choice and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'weather condition are'), incorrect sentence structures, and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces before commas and periods. The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and pluralization, before attempting more complex structures.
