Student answer (Band 6.0)

In most countries, during summer vacations of both primary and secondary schools are shutdown for two months or even for longer time period. In my perspective, it includes pros and cons for both situations. Such as, in long school holidays students get a relief from hectic academic schedules. However, some people argue about in the support of shorter school day offs. Which facilitates them to perform better in studies.

When we talk about longer school vacations. It is considered advantageous for children’s mental health and personal development. Students utilise holiday time spending with their parents or grandparents. They spend quality time with their kith and kin. Therefore, they create emotional bonding with their guardians. Consequently, become mentally stable and because of that they do not feel any loneliness, which may result them having no anxiety and become more social in nature.

Despite all these benefits, some individuals believe that schools holidays are must be for short time period. Having small vacations not only helps them to focus more on studies but also develop basic etiquettes. For instance, being a punctual for school time and build dedication to complete given tasks on time which given as academic work in classrooms.

In conclusion, It is debatable that whether students should get long vacations in which they spend quality time with family and friends to form a social relationship and live anxiety free life or focus more on studies and develop academic skills and social manners in schools with short holidays to to succeed in upcoming future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention mental health and family bonding for long holidays, and punctuality/dedication for short holidays, these points are not fully extended with concrete examples or deeper analysis. The position is clear, but the overall depth of the argument is basic. To improve, ensure that each main idea is supported by a specific, illustrative example rather than general statements. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not add new insight to the discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Therefore', 'Consequently', and 'Despite all these benefits'. However, some of these are used mechanically or incorrectly, such as starting sentences with 'Which' or 'It is considered'. The flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between ideas could be smoother. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words will help achieve a more natural progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some good phrases like 'hectic academic schedules' and 'kith and kin'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'shutdown for two months' (should be 'shut down') and 'basic etiquettes' (etiquette is an uncountable noun). There is also some repetition of basic vocabulary. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding grammatical errors in word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, 'In most countries, during summer vacations of both primary and secondary schools are shutdown' is grammatically incorrect. There are also issues with sentence fragments, such as 'Such as, in long school holidays students get a relief...' and 'Which facilitates them to perform better in studies.' These errors occasionally impede the flow of reading. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and avoiding sentence fragments will significantly improve your score.
