Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 156 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is severely limited. While you identify some benefits of long holidays, such as stress relief and extracurricular development, the second part of the prompt—arguments in favour of shorter holidays—is almost entirely ignored, with only a brief mention at the end. To improve, you must ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed with equal weight and provide sufficient supporting details or examples for each point to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no introduction that paraphrases the prompt effectively, and the body paragraphs are underdeveloped. The transition between ideas is abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is minimal. For example, the final sentence, 'Shorter school holidays can be also useful', is disconnected from the rest of the text and lacks any supporting explanation. To achieve a higher score, you should use clear paragraphing, topic sentences, and a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'on the other hand') to guide the reader through your arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. You frequently use simple phrases like 'get much time', 'get relax', and 'get more stress relief'. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or collocations that would demonstrate a higher level of proficiency. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary. For instance, instead of 'get relax', use 'unwind' or 'decompress'. Additionally, there are minor errors in word choice, such as 'miss use' (misuse) and 'there knowledge' (their knowledge), which indicate a need for more careful proofreading.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammar is generally simple, consisting mostly of basic sentence structures. There are several recurring errors, such as 'which is also called as' (incorrect passive construction) and 'travel new places' (missing preposition 'to'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around periods and commas. To improve, focus on mastering complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences. Ensure that you check for basic subject-verb agreement and preposition usage, as these errors currently detract from the clarity of your writing.
