Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 162 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay identifies the value of long holidays (rest and family time) and the benefits of shorter breaks (academic continuity), these points are presented in a very superficial manner. The lack of depth and the failure to fully explore the arguments prevent the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, you must expand on your points with specific examples, explanations, and logical consequences to meet the length requirement and demonstrate a more thorough engagement with the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is limited by the brevity of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'whereas' and 'in conclusion', but they are often used mechanically or incorrectly, such as the transition between the second and third paragraphs. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall structure feels disjointed. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences and ideas more naturally, and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that is fully supported by subsequent analysis.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'spend some with family' and 'enjoy allot' show limited control over word choice and spelling. There is little attempt to use less common or academic vocabulary appropriate for an IELTS Task 2 essay. The repetition of 'long school breaks' and 'short school breaks' indicates a limited range. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and academic collocations, and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms, such as using 'allot' instead of 'a lot'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('students gets', 'schools breaks helps') and awkward phrasing ('provide holidays for students for two or more in summer'). The sentence structures are predominantly simple, with few attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and sentence construction. Practice combining simple sentences into complex ones using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions to demonstrate a wider range of grammatical structures.
