Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that long holidays allow for hobbies and family bonding, these points are not fully extended with specific examples or deeper analysis. The arguments for shorter holidays are also quite brief, focusing primarily on the need for consistency. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more detailed explanations and concrete examples to support your claims, ensuring that the discussion feels balanced and thorough throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'As a result', and 'To conclude' to link your ideas. However, the progression of ideas within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'These type of school holidays'). The transition between the two main body paragraphs could be smoother to better highlight the contrast between the two viewpoints. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used naturally will help improve the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'monotonous', 'consistency', and 'academic career'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'get rid of from their same routine' and 'strong their bond', which sound unnatural. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary. While you attempt to use some less common items, the errors in word formation and usage occasionally hinder the precision of your expression.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('schools remained close' instead of 'remain closed') and incorrect preposition usage ('get rid of from'). Additionally, there are punctuation and article errors throughout the text. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall quality. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your score.
