Student answer (Band 6.0)

Elementary and secondary schools are usually closed  for eight or more weeks during the summers in many part of the world. There are some reasons behind it which make them valuable.

Summer holidays are usually given to protect young school children from scorching heat during summer season which eventually lead to severe health problems. Children who study in these school are usually under 14 and they bearly handle such high temprature, granting vacations would reduce the changes to get harmed significantly. For example, a primary school student continues his school and due to heat he suffers from headaches and low hydration. As a result, they would not only become ill also they valuable time would also be wasted. So summer vacations are the best possible solution to protect them.

On the other hand, in many countries, summer holidays usually lasts for two or more months which create unnecessary gap between students and their education institutes break the learning momentum. Although students are assigned and expected to complete their homework, still it is not as equal as learning new things. If there would be fewer holidays , it would less likely to break the momentum of contiuning their sallybus. Futtermore, students complete their assgined homework within few weeks and they spent rest of their days playing in the playgroun, due to these reasons, they summer holidays should be reduced.

In conclusion, summer vacations have their significance and also protect children health but there are unneccsarily long and also gap between their learnings.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development is somewhat limited. The argument regarding health is clear, but the discussion on learning momentum is repetitive and lacks depth. The conclusion is quite brief and does not fully synthesize the points made. To achieve a higher band, you should expand on your ideas with more specific examples or logical consequences. For instance, instead of just mentioning 'homework', you could discuss the impact of long breaks on specific subjects like mathematics or language acquisition.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic attempt at using cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'For example', and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and some transitions are missing or awkward, such as the transition into the second paragraph. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence builds logically upon the previous one would enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several spelling errors, such as 'bearly' (barely), 'temprature' (temperature), 'sallybus' (syllabus), 'Futtermore' (Furthermore), and 'playgroun' (playground). These errors are noticeable and detract from the overall quality of the writing. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'learning momentum' and 'education institutes', the range is limited. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Examples include 'they bearly handle such high temprature' (subject-verb agreement/spelling), 'reduce the changes to get harmed' (incorrect collocation), and 'they valuable time would also be wasted' (incorrect pronoun usage). There are also issues with punctuation and sentence fragments. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and correct article usage.
