Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The first body paragraph provides clear benefits of long holidays, such as leisure and physical health. The second paragraph regarding shorter holidays is less developed, focusing primarily on academic curriculum pace rather than broader social or economic arguments. The introduction is problematic as it includes the prompt's questions verbatim rather than paraphrasing them, and the conclusion is fragmented and incomplete, which limits the overall clarity of the position. To reach a higher band, ensure all arguments are fully extended with specific examples and maintain a consistent, formal tone throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'Moreover,' and 'Ultimately.' However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by mechanical errors and awkward phrasing. For instance, the transition 'The last but not the least' is non-standard, and the final paragraph is a sentence fragment that fails to provide a cohesive summary. While the progression of ideas is generally logical, the lack of a complete concluding sentence and some repetitive sentence structures hinder the overall coherence. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, complete structure would enhance the score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary range is adequate for the task, with attempts to use topic-specific terms like 'recreation,' 'enrichment,' and 'academic curriculum.' However, there are several spelling errors ('lesiure,' 'curisity,' 'diveragent,' 'culturess,' 'indespensible,' 'techers,' 'prectical,' 'msintaining') and some awkward collocations ('obesity-based illnesses starts to strunk'). These errors occasionally distract the reader, though they do not prevent understanding. To improve, you should focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and expanding your use of more precise academic collocations. The current range is sufficient to convey meaning but lacks the precision and accuracy required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'the likelihood of obesity-based illnesses starts to strunk' and 'fostering them to percieve more detailed feedback of their achievemants.' Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with sentence boundaries, particularly in the final paragraph where the text trails off. Frequent minor errors in subject-verb agreement and word formation are present. To achieve a higher score, focus on mastering complex sentence construction and reducing the frequency of basic grammatical slips.
