Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address both parts of the prompt—the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones—the points are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting evidence or examples. For instance, the mention of 'academic regression' is a strong point but is not expanded upon. To improve, you must provide more detailed explanations and specific examples to fully explore each argument. The position is generally clear, but the lack of depth and the failure to meet the length requirement prevent a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition 'on one hand' is used, but the corresponding 'on the other hand' is replaced by 'conversly' (spelled incorrectly). There is also a lack of logical flow between sentences; some ideas feel disjointed, such as the sudden shift to outdoor activities in the final paragraph. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'spend time with their families' and 'do different types of activities'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'distnict', 'relaved', 'slybus', and 'import5ant', which detract from the professional tone of the essay. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to education and academic development, and pay closer attention to spelling and word choice to ensure your ideas are expressed more accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'student experienced', 'student became'), article usage, and tense consistency. For example, 'The student allow break' should be 'Students are allowed a break'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capitalisation and incorrect sentence boundaries. To reach a higher band, you need to focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and reducing the frequency of errors in your complex sentences.
