Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is undeniable that providing holidays to the school students is necessary for their overall development. In majority of the countries, primary as well as secondary schools allocate holiday to the teachers and students. This essay will discuss the value or long and shorter school holidays in trailed passages.

This paragraph will show the importance of long school vacation. One of the primary reason is that it help asprints to escape from hectic education workload. It is the best opportunities for them to focus on other skilled or interested field according to their convenience. As a result they can develop and master in life skills such as critical thinking. Furthermore, it strengthen family relationship. By offering long school holidays, students can spend quality time with their parents and other family members. Therefore, long school break is crucial for students.

On the other hand, there are several merits of shorter school holidays. First and foremost, it encourage students to stay dedicated towards studies, as long time isolated from books can distract children from education. Moreover, it is highly beneficial for students, especially matured asprints, as it allow more time to being prepared for competitive examination which not only improves their academic performance but also enhance confidence and prepared them for personal and professional life.

In my opinion, both long school and shorter school holidays have its own merits and demerits, I firmly believe that, granting vacation for only short period of time is significantly beneficial for students for their academic outcomes. In fact, when I was pursuing higher secondary education, shorter school holidays help me to stay focused and connected towards study.

In conclusion, although long school holidays encourage family bonds and engage students in unique field, shorter school holidays allow students to remain consistent towards education and boosts personal growth. I believe long school holidays are far better for primary students and shorter for secondary ones for bright future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are generally well-supported with relevant examples, such as the mention of family bonding and academic focus. However, some points are slightly under-developed; for instance, the transition between the benefits of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones could be more nuanced. The conclusion introduces a new idea regarding the age-appropriateness of holiday lengths, which is a good attempt at synthesis, though it could have been integrated earlier in the essay to strengthen the overall argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, there is some mechanical use of these devices, and the flow between sentences is occasionally slightly repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, though some minor improvements in the variety of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task. The student uses some topic-specific terms like 'hectic education workload' and 'competitive examination'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choices and minor errors, such as 'asprints' (likely meant 'aspirants'), 'matured' (should be 'mature'), and 'trailed passages' (which is unclear). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage and better control over collocations to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'it help asprints', 'it encourage', 'it allow') and article usage errors (e.g., 'in majority of the countries'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some comma splices and minor errors that persist throughout the text. While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band for grammatical accuracy.
