Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this era, everyone wants longer holidays because of their busy lives. However, in many countries primary and secondary schools close for more than 2 months in the summer holidays. Some people believe that it is helpful for students to live without academic burden, while others argue that they will forgot everything in their breaks.

There are several reasons why students should get long school holidays. To begin with, longer holidays allows they to explore and enjoy new places with their family members. During their schools it is not possible for they to go for long vacation with their family members. For example, if they want to go on a international trip then it is hard for them to go during schools. Moreover, it helps them to improve their relationships with their family members and relative. Due to their study, they are not able to visit their grandparents and cousins, hence they can meet on longer holidays and spend time with them.

On the other hand, there are some arguments why holidays should be shorter. To start with, some people believe that it is helpful for children to stay focused on their study's, because on long holiday's there are chances to forgot some academic lessons. They will loose their mark in their next exam. In addition, after long holidays enjoy it is hard for them to focus on their study, it feel boring for them. Last but not least, shorter holidays help them to learn a new skill, which will helps they in the future.

In conclusion, longer holidays helps students to enjoy their lives and they have more time for their family members. On the other side, shorter holidays helps them to stay focused on their study and learn a new skill.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. The ideas are relevant, such as family bonding for long holidays and academic focus for shorter ones. However, the development is somewhat limited. The arguments are presented in a list-like fashion without deep exploration or specific, illustrative examples beyond general statements. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations or concrete evidence. The position is clear throughout, but the overall development remains at a basic level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand', which help the flow of ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as 'allows they to explore' or 'helps they in the future', where the pronoun usage is incorrect. While the progression of ideas is logical, the lack of sophisticated linking and occasional errors in referencing prevent a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'family members' and 'study'. There are also several word-choice errors, such as 'forgot' instead of 'forget', 'loose' instead of 'lose', and 'study's' (incorrect pluralisation). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of less common lexical items and the presence of spelling and word-choice errors limit the score. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring correct word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('longer holidays allows they'), pronoun misuse ('allows they', 'helps they'), and incorrect pluralisation/possessives ('study's', 'holiday's'). These errors are persistent and sometimes distract the reader, although they do not completely impede communication. To improve, you need to pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, particularly pronoun cases and verb agreement, and aim for more error-free sentences.
