Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 171 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address both parts of the prompt—the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones—the points are underdeveloped and lack sufficient detail or logical extension. The position is clear, but the brevity prevents a full exploration of the topic, leading to a superficial treatment of the arguments. To improve, you must expand your points with more thorough explanations and specific examples to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore' and 'In conclusion', they are sometimes used incorrectly or mechanically. The connection between sentences is occasionally weak, making the flow of the argument feel repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that transitions logically to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms. There are several spelling errors, such as 'verious' instead of 'various', 'temprature' instead of 'temperature', and 'neabourhood' instead of 'neighborhood'. The word choice is often imprecise, such as 'high heat waves in environment' and 'my classmate is fall down'. To improve, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and pay closer attention to spelling and word formation. Expanding your range of synonyms and collocations will help you express your ideas more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'school close' instead of 'schools close'), missing articles, and incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'is create' instead of 'creates'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with few attempts at complex sentences. When complex structures are attempted, they often contain errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles and prepositions before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
