Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While both parts of the prompt are addressed, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting examples. The conclusion is incomplete, trailing off mid-sentence, which prevents a clear summary of the position. To improve, you must expand on your points with specific examples and ensure the essay is fully completed. The current length and lack of depth limit the score to a 5.0, as the response is only partially developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'in addition with' and 'rather than using'. The transition between the benefits of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones is abrupt. Furthermore, the lack of a finished conclusion disrupts the overall coherence of the piece. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, logical progression of thought.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic phrasing. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'students fresh their minds' (should be 'refresh') and 'open vacation on other country' (should be 'take a vacation in another country'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. To improve, focus on learning collocations and more academic synonyms for common words. Avoid using informal phrasing like 'electronic gadgets' when more precise academic terminology could be employed.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('some students not doing'), incorrect verb forms ('which is teach before'), and run-on sentences. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent. The unfinished final sentence is a major error that affects the grammatical integrity of the conclusion. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect prepositions.
