Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the points regarding student relaxation and parental work schedules are relevant, the explanation of the ozone layer and climate change is somewhat tangential and not clearly linked to the primary value of school holidays. The position is generally clear, but the lack of a strong, cohesive argument structure prevents it from reaching a higher band. The ideas are present but require more logical expansion and better focus on the core educational and social implications.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow between and within them is often disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, but they are frequently mechanical or misused, such as 'In this manner' or 'All in all, of a foresaid'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between the benefits of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones feels abrupt. The paragraphing is present, but the internal logic of the arguments is hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of smooth, logical progression.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'masses reikon', 'routined study', and 'jetty depleted'. Some words are used incorrectly, such as 'eficiency' and 'activitys'. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the high frequency of spelling errors and inappropriate word choices occasionally makes the meaning difficult to follow. A wider range of precise, academic vocabulary is needed to convey ideas effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is low. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Arguments for School hodidays , is are'), incorrect punctuation, and fragmented sentences. The use of articles and prepositions is often inconsistent. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction significantly impacts the overall quality of the writing and requires more attention to detail.
