Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address both parts of the prompt—the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones—the discussion is superficial and lacks sufficient supporting examples or depth. The ideas are presented in a very brief manner, and the conclusion is missing entirely. To improve, you must expand on your points with specific examples and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for a full exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand', but they are somewhat mechanical. The logical flow between sentences is occasionally disrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, making the overall structure feel underdeveloped. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by well-developed supporting points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits your ability to express complex ideas. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'begging' instead of 'the beginning', 'extra curriculum' instead of 'extracurricular activities', and 'fill bord' instead of 'feel bored'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of your message. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to education and time management, and focus on correct collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('students most follow up'), tense usage ('have nit learn'), and sentence structure. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often inaccurate, which can make the text difficult to follow. The punctuation is generally acceptable, but the overall control of grammar is weak. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and proofreading for common errors like verb forms and word endings.
