Student answer (Band 6.0)

In several countries, primary and secondary schools remain closed during summer for a longer time period of two or more months. The longer off days are valuable according to their scenario, on the other hand, shorter holidays are also favorable in their own respective reasons. I will partly discuss the views, both in terms of worth and argument against holidays.

Specifically, in summer the climate is extremely hot and the temperature go beyond the ideal limit so, a strong heat wave can affect health of an individual. For instance, it effects infrastructure in terms of energy crisis such as, water shortage, power plants, electricity and voltage issues for electronics become prominent in hot days. In order to overcome these energy hazards long holidays are offered in the schools, so that they can protect the energy resources and power outrage of a country.

Next is, shorter school holidays are favourable in terms of educational and economic growth of the country. If the government maintain the proper weather condition artificially by using technology, then it is possible to lower the temperature in schools, homes and work place, which results in the shorter holidays. Moreover, shorter holidays make you relax and free for a certain time period, which is beneficial for mental and physical health of the society. Furthermore, the shorter number of holidays is the contribution towards the economic progress of a country, which increases its worth and economy all across the globe.

Taking everything into the account both conditions have their own favour and arguments at the same time. Firstly, power shortage and temperature conditions should be maintained by government using technological advancements, while short holidays are favourable in terms of educational, social and industrial growth.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. The argument regarding energy crises as a justification for long holidays is a bit tenuous and lacks clear logical connection to educational value. While the position is clear, the supporting points, particularly regarding economic growth and shorter holidays, are stated rather than fully explored or exemplified. To reach a higher band, you should provide more concrete examples or deeper analysis of how shorter holidays specifically impact educational outcomes or student development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use cohesive devices such as 'Specifically', 'Next is', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to link sentences. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. For instance, 'Next is' is not a standard academic transition. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'both conditions have their own favour', which is slightly awkward. Improving the variety and natural flow of your linking words would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'infrastructure', 'technological advancements', and 'respective'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'longer off days' (should be 'longer holidays'), 'power outrage' (likely meant 'power outages'), and 'contribution towards the economic progress' (should be 'contributes to'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on more precise collocations and academic phrasing will help improve your score in this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('temperature go beyond') and awkward phrasing ('the shorter number of holidays is the contribution towards'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences and comma splices that affect the flow. While you attempt complex structures, they are not always error-free. To improve, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining your use of complex sentence forms to ensure they are grammatically accurate.
