Student answer (Band 5.0)
In the modern world, primary and secondary schools close for two month or more in the summer holidays. I am not favor for this development because it impacts study to children.
To begin with, long school holidays is beneficial for sport aged children because in summer most of the schools are not provide best facility for students. for example most of the schools are not provide air-conditioner facility, water cooler for cold water. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address both parts of the prompt, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting evidence or depth. The position is stated but not consistently maintained or explored in a balanced way. Because the response is only 166 words, it is impossible to fully develop the points regarding the value of long holidays or the arguments for shorter ones. To improve, you must expand each body paragraph with specific examples and logical explanations to reach the required length.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay uses basic paragraphing and some linking words like 'To begin with' and 'In conclusion' to organize ideas. However, the progression of ideas is limited by the brevity of the text. Cohesive devices are used in a somewhat mechanical way, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by grammatical errors. The relationship between the ideas presented is clear, but the lack of depth makes the overall structure feel incomplete. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices to connect sentences and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by well-developed supporting points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'sport aged children' and 'high rising competition'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas effectively. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of precision and the reliance on basic terminology prevent a higher score. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to education and health, and focus on using words in their correct context to avoid unnatural phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the writing. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'schools are not provide'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with few attempts at complex sentences. When complex structures are attempted, they often contain errors, such as 'for high rising competition student should study for more then 14 hours'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles. Proofreading for common errors like 'then' versus 'than' will also help improve your accuracy.
