Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the required 250-word minimum, reaching only 97 words. Consequently, the task is not fully addressed. While the introduction attempts to outline the two sides of the argument, the body paragraph is extremely brief and fails to develop the second part of the prompt regarding the arguments in favour of shorter holidays. The ideas presented are limited and lack the necessary depth, examples, or supporting evidence required for an academic essay. To improve, you must expand on each point with specific examples and ensure all parts of the question are answered in detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is too short to demonstrate a clear logical progression or effective paragraphing. While there is a basic attempt to structure the response with an introduction and a body paragraph, the lack of development makes it difficult to assess coherence. Cohesive devices are minimal, and the transition between the introduction and the body is abrupt. To achieve a higher score, you need to write full paragraphs that use linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to connect ideas logically and ensure that each paragraph has a clear central theme.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'holidays', 'student', and 'advantages'. There is little evidence of a range of vocabulary suitable for an academic task. Phrases like 'normal days' and 'completing assignment' are somewhat unnatural. To improve, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and synonyms to avoid repetition. Focus on learning collocations and topic-specific terminology related to education and time management to demonstrate a wider range of lexical resources.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('long school holidays provides', 'long school holidays gives', 'student regularly take') and missing articles. The sentence structures are simple, and there is no attempt to use complex grammatical forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capital letters at the start of sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and sentence construction. Once these are accurate, begin incorporating complex structures like relative clauses or conditional sentences to demonstrate a wider range.
