Student answer (Band 6.0)
In many countries, the summer holidays are common in primary and secondary schools for two or more months. In some countries its for two months, while in other its for more than two months. In this essay, i will discuss the benifits of long and short school holidays.
On the one hand, in few countries schools close for a longer period. In these countries the temperature are extremely high in the summer. Although It would be difficult for children to go to school in heat wave, they would experince a dehydration or other emergencies related to extreme hot weather. For example, in Pakistan primary and secondary schools close for more than two months to ensure the safety of children. Therefore instead of giving two months holidays the summer vacations are longer in Pakistan.
On the other hand, there are several arguments in favor of shorter school holidays. Firstly, children would't be away from studies for longer duration. For example, when children did't study for more than two months, it become really hard for them to complete their sllaybus in remaining months. So shorter holidays prevent this problem and did't waste students time. Secondly, Children becomes irritated by just staying at home and want parents attantion 24/7, this can effect parents work and household routine. Therefore, shorter vacations are also benficial for parents.
In conclusion, both type of holidays have several benefitis. By comparison, longer vacations are beneficial in extreme weather countries, while shorter vacations are essential for students education and parents routine.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both the value of long school holidays and the arguments in favour of shorter ones. The writer introduces relevant ideas, such as dealing with extreme weather conditions like heat waves in Pakistan, and the benefits of shorter holidays for keeping children engaged in studies and relieving pressure on parents' routines. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and lacks detailed supporting evidence or fully articulated examples. While the position is clear throughout, the explanations remain relatively basic and brief, preventing the response from reaching a higher band. Overall, the content is relevant and adequately covers the prompt requirements, placing it firmly at a Band 6 level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs addressing each part of the prompt, and finishing with a logical conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, some of the referencing and logical links are slightly mechanical or faulty, as seen in sentences like 'Therefore instead of giving two months holidays the summer vacations are longer in Pakistan', which disrupt the smooth progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments, but overall, the management of cohesion keeps the response at a Band 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts related to education and holidays. There are several attempts to use less common or topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'dehydration', 'emergencies', and 'routine'. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors occur throughout the text, including 'benifits' instead of 'benefits', 'experince' instead of 'experience', 'sllaybus' instead of 'syllabus', and 'attantion' instead of 'attention'. Furthermore, expressions like 'extreme hot weather' demonstrate minor collocation lapses. Despite these inaccuracies, meaning is never impeded, matching the descriptor for Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with attempts at conditionals and subordinate clauses such as 'Although It would be difficult for children to go to school in heat wave...'. There are frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization, and grammar, including lowercase 'i' pronouns, missing articles ('in heat wave'), punctuation errors like apostrophe omissions ('would't', 'did't'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('Children becomes'). Despite these frequent errors, they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the arguments easily. This blend of structural attempts and persistent grammatical errors aligns well with a Band 6 score.
