Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing both the value of long school holidays and the arguments in favour of shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on long holidays mentions skill development and family time, but these points are generalized without strong, detailed support. The introduction is largely comprised of memorised template phrases ('It is undeniable that different people have different opinions') which detracts from the quality of task response. The position is clear, but the ideas require deeper elaboration to reach higher bands, fitting best into Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which helps establish a basic structure. However, logical progression is hindered by repetitive cohesive devices and awkward transitions, such as 'Besides this' and 'To clarify it more, main subjects like science, math etc. these subjects requires a daily time'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the conclusion is an incomplete sentence fragment. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is frequently mechanical and faulty. These features align with a Band 5.0 descriptor.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, such as 'good', 'benefits', 'children', and 'holidays'. There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'foreigners students are having more holidays' and 'feel relax and calm' instead of 'feel relaxed and calm'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey simple ideas, frequent slips and a lack of less common lexical items prevent the response from achieving a higher score. This sits comfortably at a Band 5.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text displays a very limited range of structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty or ungrammatical. Examples include 'longer holidays is also beneficial', which demonstrates subject-verb agreement errors, and 'Parebts who are doing jobs, they face difficulties', which features a double subject error and a typo. Punctuation errors are also present, and frequent grammatical inaccuracies cause occasional strain for the reader. These characteristics correspond directly to the Band 5 descriptors.
