Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is often argued that schools gives long term holidays to students in summer season. I strongly agreed with this view and believe that schools should give two months summer holidays to students because in summer the temperature is very hot like 40 to 50 degree and it is hard for students to spend their whole day in school. So that's why in many countries, pimary and secondary education systemnclose for two months or more in the summer holidays

Firstly, student cannot spend their dya in that much hot temperatue they may can get heat strom and get fainted at that time. That;s why gournment pass the application to all instituations to be closed on the peak summer months, so the student cannot spend their whole day in school.

On the other hand, the school should close only in peak summer monts like june and july and when the temperature become normal like 25 to 30 degrees they should open the schools and continue the classes of both primary and secondary instituations. It may help them to cover the pending syllabus of the subjects.

In conclusion, the key points Idescribe in the upper paragraph play a vital role in the socities for the students. Therefore, governments should take action on those educational instituations who opened school on summer vacations days.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt, discussing the value of long school holidays (such as escaping extreme summer temperatures) and touching upon shorter holidays or partial closures. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive, with the argument heavily anchored around hot weather and health risks rather than a broader educational or developmental perspective. Furthermore, the response falls short of the minimum word count, containing only 220 words instead of the required 250 words. This under-length impacts task achievement as the ideas cannot be fully extended. The position is stated, but the overall task fulfilment suffers from brevity and lack of elaboration, aligning closely with a Band 5.0 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is divided into four paragraphs, showing an attempt at a standard essay structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, paragraphing is somewhat erratic, and logical progression is hindered by repetitive statements and abrupt transitions (e.g., 'So that's why in many countries...'). Cohesive devices are basic and sometimes misused, such as 'Firstly' used without a corresponding 'Secondly'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and sentences often run together without proper punctuation or logical flow. While there is an overall structure that gives the reader a sense of progression, the mechanical and faulty cohesion restricts the score to a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive throughout the essay. Words like 'schools', 'summer', 'students', and 'temperature' are recycled frequently. There are noticeable word choice and spelling errors, such as 'systemnclose', 'dya', 'temperatue', 'heat strom', and 'gournment'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'educational institutions' and 'pending syllabus', but these are overshadowed by frequent lexical inaccuracies and non-standard collocations ('pass the application', 'opened school on summer vacations days'). The lexical range is minimally adequate for the task, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or poorly coordinated compound sentences. Attempts at complex structures often result in grammatical errors, run-on sentences, or structural breakdown (e.g., 'Firstly, student cannot spend their dya in that much hot temperatue they may can get heat strom and get fainted at that time'). There are frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation, such as missing apostrophes and semicolons misused as commas. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the grammar score from rising above a Band 5.0.
