Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the value of long school holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is limited and often repetitive. For instance, the discussion on part-time work mentions practical experience in western countries and gives examples like Starbucks or McDonald's, but the elaboration remains underdeveloped. Similarly, the arguments for shorter holidays mention study gaps and maturity issues without substantial extension. The position is evident throughout, but generalisations and underdeveloped points prevent the response from reaching higher bands. It meets the criteria for Band 5 by addressing the prompt overall while presenting limited and partially developed ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some logical organisation with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, but overall progression is hindered by poor paragraphing and weak cohesive devices. The second body paragraph is extremely brief, and sentences often lack clear linking. Transitional phrases like 'On other hand' and 'In conclugen' are inaccurate or mechanical. Referencing is frequently unclear, such as 'It have play very important role' where the pronoun antecedent is ambiguous. While there is a basic structure, the inadequate and repetitive use of cohesive devices places this response securely at Band 5.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is limited and basic, with noticeable errors that frequently cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'arguement' instead of argument, 'caricular' for extracurricular, 'decigen' for decide or decision, 'neash' for niche, 'intrest' for interested, 'rearn' for learn, 'bleave' for believe, 'reasion' for reason, 'periad' for period, 'schadule' for schedule, 'comite' for commit, and 'conclugen' for conclusion. These lexical inaccuracies and severe spelling errors restrict the vocabulary range and frequently impede smooth communication, aligning with the Band 4 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

Grammatical control is weak, with a very limited range of structures and frequent errors that distort meaning. Simple sentences are constructed with basic grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('It have play', 'Children is lost it intrest', 'Children are not much mature'). Attempts at complex structures are consistently faulty and missing necessary articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences and comma splices. Because errors are frequent and pervasive throughout the response, significantly straining the reader, it meets the criteria for a Band 4.
