Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task, examining both the value of long school holidays and the arguments in favour of shorter ones. The writer establishes a clear position in the introduction, stating that shorter but frequent holidays are more advantageous, and maintains this viewpoint throughout. Main ideas are presented, such as the benefits of long breaks for creativity versus the drawback of disrupted academic routines, and these are supported with some explanations and examples. However, some arguments remain somewhat general and could be further developed with deeper analysis or concrete illustrations. Overall, the performance aligns well with the requirements for a Band 6.0 in Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, moving logically from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing both perspectives, and finishing with a summary conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Lets begin by considering', 'However', and 'On the other hand', which help to guide the reader through the arguments. Nevertheless, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in minor awkward transitions and repetitive phrasing like 'short term holidays' and 'long school vacations'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently, but the overall progression could be smoother to reach a higher band level. This performance corresponds to a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate for the academic prompt, using terms such as 'academic burden', 'capabilities', 'creativity', and 'advantageous'. However, there are numerous noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'modranizem' for modernization, 'holigays' for holidays, 'benificial' for beneficial, 'eassy' for essay, 'dicuss' for discuss, 'differnt' for different, 'interect' for interact, 'prowers' for prowess, 'expoure' for exposure, 'donot' for do not, and 'advantegeous' for advantageous. These errors indicate a limited control over spelling and word formation, which places this aspect of the writing within the Band 5.0 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and relative clauses. There is an effort to vary sentence patterns, but this is accompanied by frequent grammatical and punctuation errors. Examples include 'One group among the community argue' (subject-verb agreement error), 'Holidays constitute of long time period can be beneficial' (faulty clause construction), 'short but frequent breaks a more better' (missing verb), and missing commas or incorrect capitalization ('i', 'Inaddition'). While communication is generally maintained despite these flaws, the high frequency of errors prevents the writing from achieving a higher score. This merits a Band 5.0.
