Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing the value of long holidays, such as protection from extreme heat and spending time with family, as well as the arguments in favour of shorter holidays, like academic improvement and frequent family visits. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For example, the mention of hot weather leading to students fainting in Pakistan and India is relevant, but the arguments regarding shorter holidays lack deep extension. Furthermore, there are some logical gaps, such as the sudden mention of 'hostiltes' instead of hostels or students. The position is clear, but due to under-developed arguments and minor lapses in task focus, it fits the Band 5 descriptors well.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, attempting an introduction, body paragraphs addressing the prompts, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression is disjointed due to frequent referencing and cohesion errors. For instance, transitional phrases like 'additionally to give teachers' and 'furthermore hostiltes will be able' are grammatically awkward and impair smooth flow. Pronoun referencing is also weak, making it difficult at times to track whether the writer is referring to students, teachers, or parents. Paragraphing is present, but internal logical transitions are mechanical and inadequate, placing the response firmly at Band 5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples of lexical errors include 'vactions' for vacations, 'unliviable' for unlivable, 'lovedonce' for loved ones, 'benicial' for beneficial, 'acedamic' for academic, and 'specfically' specifically. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'scorching heat' and 'research-based assignments,' but persistent spelling mistakes and inaccurate word forms, such as 'hostiltes' and 'tought,' restrict the lexical score to a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on positive aspects of minimally adequate range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but frequent grammatical errors and poor punctuation significantly impact accuracy. There are frequent missing prepositions, subject-verb agreement errors, and tense inconsistencies, such as 'that students get fainted is common' and 'Given them two or three short holidays can give them time.' Punctuation is also neglected, with run-on sentences lacking appropriate commas or conjunctions. While meaning can mostly be deciphered, the high frequency of errors across basic and complex sentences prevents the response from reaching Band 6.
